Special Calls for Excess Waste

 Step 1 of 1

The city provides a special pickup service to its solid waste customers who are in the process of moving or may have a lot of waste to get rid of after de-cluttering a basement or attic. This special call for service allows our customers to pay a flat fee of $40.00 for pickup of excess waste removed from their household instead of purchasing extra garbage stickers, which could be very costly.

There are some limitations to this program due to regulations and equipment. Residents are strongly encouraged to use their every other week bulky waste collection for furniture and appliances.

What is covered under the $40 special collection of excess waste fee?

The $40.00 service fee covers one trip to pick up excess waste from the household identified. The service collects a maximum of 5 cubic yards (that's about 80 33-gallon garbage bags or about one large pickup truckload).

You may also place the following items with bagged garbage. Keep in mind these items can also be placed on your regular recycling and bulky waste day without a fee.

  • Furniture and Appliances. Refrigerator doors must be off and appliance must be drained of any fluid.
  • Lawn and landscape equipment such as lawnmowers and snow blowers. Remove all liquids.
  • Carpet may be placed in rolled bundles no longer than 4ft and weighing no more than 50 pounds each.
  • Households are limited to the collection of up to five tires per year.
  • Paint must be dried. Leave the lid off. If you decide to place paint on your regular collection day, place paint that has been properly dried in your garbage cart.

The following items are NOT Accepted with this service.

  • Building materials and construction debris from home improvement projects are not accepted. These materials may be disposed of in your garbage cart with the lid down on your regular garbage collection day or taken to the Scott County Landfill.
  • Yard waste is not collected with this service.
  • Hazardous wastes and liquids are not accepted with this service. Visit www.wastecom.com for details on hazardous waste and liquid disposal.
  • For help with materials the city will not collect, call a private hauler, listed in the yellow pages under garbage and rubbish removal, or Call the Scott Area Landfill 381-1300.
