Plumbing permits are required for work on any plumbing systems in a commercial or residential setting. Most plumbing work must be performed by a licensed and bonded contractor.*
*Owner-occupants meeting the requirements of applicable codes may perform repair or remodel work regulated by any of the applicable codes on said existing dwelling together with any existing accessory buildings not used for commercial purposes. To be eligible to perform work on a plumbing system, the work must be performed by the Owner in an Owner Occupied Property and the residence shall qualify for the homestead tax exemption.
Owner-occupants may not perform work related to ‘service connection’ or ‘gas piping’. This work must be performed by a licensed and bonded contractor. Additional conditions and permits may be required based on the type of work to be performed. If you are not sure what types of permits are needed, the best way to find out is to call us at 563.326.7745. It is unlawful to perform plumbing work without a permit. You may be fined if you proceed with work that requires a permit.
